Enable Auto Login - Windows XP

Below are the procedure for XP Auto login :

Start -> Run type regedit then click OK

Locate the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

In Right Side Pane :

Double-click on DefaultUserName then type your user name as value and click OK
Double-click on DefaultPassword then type your password as value and click OK

If there is no entry like DefaultPassword, then create it using the following steps:

Rightclick and select New, and then select String Value
Type DefaultPassword as value name and Press OK
Double click on newly created entry and type your password there as value

If DefaultPassword string is not specified then Windows XP automatically changes the value of AutoAdminLogon key from 1 (true) to 0 (false) to turn off AutoAdminLogon facility.

Double-click on AutoAdminLogon entry then type 1 as value and Press OK

If there is no entry like AutoAdminLogon, then create it using the following steps:

Rightclick and select New, and then select String Value
Type AutoAdminLogon as value name, and then Press OK
Double Click the newly created key and type 1 as value

Close Registry Editor

Restart your PC, now your XP can log in Automatically.

Disable the right click functionality on the desktop

Very useful particularly for home users who want to protect their system default settings against unwanted changes that other users can make. For example changes in system desktop appearance, themes, and screen saver as well as other display settings. Using registry editor, you can disable the right click functionality on desktop to access the "Display Properties" dialog box and this will also prevent users to access windows explorer.

Follow the given steps to disable the right click functionality on desktop:

To use this feature, you will need to be logged into your computer with administrative rights.

Click Start button and type regedit in Run option then press Enter for next.



Here locate the location to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer



Here in right side panel, right click to create a new DWORD value with the name NoViewContextMenu (it is case sensitive), then assign number 1 in value data box.



Now close the registry editor and restart your computer after any changes to go into effect.
But next time, if you want to enable right click functionality on desktop then simply change the value of data box or delete the NoViewContextMenu DWORD item.

Disable right-click menu and ability to change item order in Start menu

This setting can disable right-click menu in Start menu as well as sub-menus of Start menu. Included to this is applying restrictions on changing the order of items in sub-menus of Start menu.

Now, right-click and modify the value to 1 which can disable context menu and item reordering from start menu. However, if you want to enable the options back, change the value data to 0 or delete the value.

Go to <b>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\]</b> Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoChangeStartMenu" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoChangeStartMenu" and click on 'Modify'.

This setting allows you to clear the names of all computers that were passed as arguments while searching a computer on the network.

Search can be carried out on computer name, and with every search a list, as drop-down information, is shown depicting the names on which the previous searches were conducted. With this setting you can clear this most recently used search list. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. When in findcomputermru folder, select all the values in the right-pane and press delete. It will delete the list of all searches conducted from find dialog box. There are two ways for pinning files or folders to start menu. Pinning files are the links listed on left top of the 2-panel start menu display which is separated by a line from the remaining links. The first one is to drag and drop that file/folder. By dragging and dropping you can add new items to this pinned list. You can easily release the mouse button either on the new start button or on the new start menu for adding it. The other way is from context menu. If you open the context menu of a file (right click on it) while holding the shift key, then you can see the new menu item "pin to start menu". Clicking this item you can place shortcuts in the start menu. For removing it you can use again the context menu right clicking on this new pinned item and then clicking "unpin from start menu" or "remove from this list". You can use this feature, e.g., for quickly accessing your "program files" folder in your profile. For this, go to start > run menu, enter "regedit" and navigate to the registry path listed below. Then right click on "contextmenuhandlers" key and select "key" option from the context menu to add the "{a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}" key (without quotes).
